Goals

National Dong Hwa University acts as a networkinghubon the eastside of Taiwan. In order to align with the central government's plan ¡Ð Challenge 2008: e-Taiwan Plan¡Ðto implement high-tech service island, we establish ERP/KM Research Center(ERP/KM RC) in the college of Management in 2002. The main objectives are to create a comprehensive e-businessenvironment, which focuses on Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Knowledge Management (KM), and it may work as a training platform for all students in our college.

Through cooperation with industries, our school attempt to provide professional services such as e-education management, research, consulting, training, and information knowledge and so on. Thus, the center may facilitate the development and prosperity of the eastside of Taiwan.

The long-term goal of ERP/KM research center is to cooperate with knowledge enterprises, and integrate related departments of NationalDongHwaUniversity with local resources to achieve goals as follows:

Integrate ERP/KM related research resources
Invest in teaching and research resources to create ERP/KM systems and to expand basic simulated e-business working data.
Promote ERP/KM research levels and the students' hands-on experiences.
Create e-business environment for teaching, research and application.
Support the teaching and research of junior colleges e-Solutions on the eastside of Taiwan.
Provide benchmarking environment of e-business.
Become the center of teaching, research, training, and consulting of e-business on the eastside of Taiwan.

Software and hardware equipments

In 2002, we have invested NTD 10,600,000 to establish hardware/software and classrooms needed to teach ERP/KM (including Oracle ERP, CRM, and WorkFlow, IBM Notes system, 2 SUN computers, 30 pcs, UPS,etc. )

Between 2003 and 2004, we have invested NTD 4,300,000 to create e-leaning environment of ERP/KM center, expand system modules (KM, WorkFlow), and build up equipments of ERP/KM center to meet the requirements of synchronization teaching for 50 students and training courses for teachers.

Important mileage stones and future plans

Integrating teaching resources and other resources, the college of management in national Dong Hwa University has already achieved some goals such as:

We have established the platform of ERP/KM software system and the related hardware equipment, and developed the e-learning environment.
We have already offered basic core courses such as ERP and Database Managemetn Systems (DBBMS) in undergraduate curriculum. More related ERP core courses will be provided in graduate school for further training higher level ERP/KM talents.
In order to expand the ERP/KMcourses scope, we have opened ERP related application and practice courses: Accounting information management, Production management information management. The KM related coursers such as Data mining, Date warehouse, Knowledge management have been opened in undergraduate and graduate curriculum.
Several professors have already completed preliminary training of ORACLE courses between 2002 and 2003, and they will continue to teach and do some relevant research.
In addition to ERP/KM related courses, graduate project designs are needed for practice training. Several teams are doing research on ERP/KM related projects, and the project training hones' students' hand-on experiences and practice ability of ERP/KM.

Future goals

Expand the scope of ERP/KM application: besides core courses, ERP/KM related application courses of other departments at National Dong Hwa University will be integrated.
Offer basic education program for ERP/KM to integrate related courses in our school and provide students with complete training to promote professional capability.
Integrated research on related ERP/KM fields as well as transnational and cross-college collaboration between industry and school¡GIntegrate teachers of ERP, KM, e-commerce, digital content, etc to do cross-department and cross-college research.
